In this post, Geeta talks about a special child, Deepanshu and the contribution that Khushboo has been able to make in his life.

Deepanshu Ratra is a child with Cerebral Palsy. When he first came in contact with khushboo at the age of 6 years, he couldn’t walk properly due to motor dysfunctions. He also could not speak a single word and was unable to hold even a pencil in his hand to write. He was enrolled in Special Education program, ‘Blessings’, and was also placed in a program for extensive therapeutic interventions for speech and physical therapy. Deepanshu’s mother was given guidance and was counselled to cope with his disability. The family was also encouraged for active participation in the child’s development program.

His family has a lower middle socio status and his father is an alcoholic. Deepanshu’s mother is hard working and substantiates the family income.  In order to help the boy develop his abilities to his potential, Khushboo has waived the fees and the charges for all therapeutic services provided to him. He has been provided free school-bus service for coming to Khushboo Centre.

Over the past 6 years that he has been with Khushboo, his ability to express his needs verbally has developed with Speech Therapy and intensive language development inputs. He can now balance himself on his legs owing to improvements in muscular strength and motor-ability through Physical therapy, He has become an ardent cricketer and enjoys other field sports too, earning laurels in State Level ‘Special’ Olympics.

There has been significant improvement in his writing skills too. He can now hold pencil in his hand to write and to draw beautiful pictures. Due to his overall Academic and physical development, he is now a confident and cheerful boy, much to the relief for his family too. He is a very sincere, hard working, amicable and well kempt boy.

Join in to make a difference in life of another child at Twestival Delhi Fundraiser 2009 on Sept 12 at 6:00 PM.

For all it requires is the “Desire to Change”..
